Umtiti refuses to answer questions about his Barca future

Samuel Umtiti’s future is still the topic of speculation with the centre-back yet to renew his deal which expires in 2021 but more importantly has a release clause of just €60 million.

There’s been lots of whispers that Barcelona will renew, that Umtiti is happy but it’s yet to happen as the club have been busy sorting out Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto’s extensions.

Of course lots of clubs have been linked to Umtiti, with Manchester United serial offenders, which is no real surprise when he’s been playing so superbly and well, there’s that release clause I mentioned earlier.

Anyway Umtiti’s away on international duty and he’s been playing a little game on French TV programme TF1 where he was asked questions and got to answer Yes, No or play a Joker which basically means not answering the question.

You can probably guess where this is going and you’d be right. Umtiti was asked if was going to renew and played a joker and was then asked if he was going to sign for Manchester United and out came the joker again (according to both Marca and Sport).

It doesn’t mean a whole lot but it’s definitely a little bit disconcerting. A simple yes in response to wanting to stay at Barcelona would have helped put an end to plenty of speculation but Umtiti chose not to do that.

There’s been rumors Umtiti is after a bigger deal from Barcelona and maybe that’s what’s behind his reticence but for all the talk of a huge deal for Antoine Griezmann the club would probably be better off sorting Umtiti’s future first.
