Suárez, Piqué, Busquets, and Alba to face more competition next season
The club wants to have more pressure for their starting positions next season
FC Barcelona are hoping to reach into the market and find players good enough to challenge some undisputed starters from last season, according to Diario SPORT.
Luis Suárez, Gerard Piqué, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba are four players that started every big game when fit, and not without reason. The four at some point have been considered among the best in their positions throughout the last few years.
However, due to their age and due to the failures at the end of last season, Barça think getting some men who can realistically challenge for their spots is essential.
To compete with Piqué, the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax would make a huge difference. He’s already considered one of the best defenders in the world, and signing him has become a big priority for the Catalans.
Junior Firpo from Real Betis is a possibility to challenge Alba for his spot at left-back, while Frenkie de Jong has already joined and could pose a threat to Busquets.
Finally, Antoine Griezmann could depose Suárez if he were signed from Atlético Madrid, although the manager may opt for a three-man forward line that includes both of them. Rodrigo Moreno from Valenica, if he was bought, could provide more direct competition for the Uruguayan.
