Messi should win the Ballon d’Or, says Van Dijk

The defender says the GOAT is the world’s best player

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says Lionel Messi deserves to win the Ballon d’Or even though Barcelona did not make the final.

The Reds won their sixth European Cup on Saturday, beating Tottenham 2-0 in the final, and after the match Van Dijk said Messi remains the world’s best.

“I think Messi is the best player in the world. He should win the Ballon d’Or,” he said.

”So I’m not thinking of that. But if I win, I’ll take it. Messi should win it though. He is the best in the world, whether he’s in the final or not.”

Yet Messi still finished the season as the top scorer in the competition. The GOAT ended up on 12 goals ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski on eight.
