Philippe Coutinho claims The Daily Mirror faked an “interview” with him

Diario SPORT is reporting the player has denied ever giving the supposed interview

A supposed interview published in The Daily Mirror with Philippe Coutinho has been declared a fake by the player himself, according to today’s Diario SPORT. We linked to the interview when it came out last weekend, thinking (perhaps mistakenly) that the British outlet would not be so brazen as to fabricate it out of whole cloth.

The actual content of the supposed interview was not particularly controversial. The player was quoted as saying he was happy at Barcelona and ready to take on Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.

The Mirror has published four different articles since Saturday featuring quotes from Coutinho that are under question now. Two different authors were credited with the pieces.

Diario SPORT reports that fake interviews have plagued Barcelona players this year, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez finding themselves in similar situations.
