Spanish federation rejects Barcelona’s plan to wear shirts with Chinese writing

Barça’s planned Chinese New Year celebration for el clásico rejected at the last moment

FC Barcelona’s plan to wear shirts with players’ names written in Chinese letters has been rejected by the Spanish federation. Barça planned to wear the shirts, with names written in Chinese script underneath the usual Latin script, as a way of celebrating the Chinese New Year.

This would be the first time the team added extra writing in between the players’ name and number. It was a way to reach out to Chinese fans, with the shirts shown off in a major clash with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey. Some limited number of shirts were also to be sold.

However, just hours before el clásico, RAC1 reports that the federation turned the idea down.
