Griezmann tells friends he’s staying at Atletico - report

Another day and another report on Antoine Griezmann’s future, and this time the speculation claims he’s told friends he’s decided to stay at Atletico Madrid.

According to ABC, Griezmann will turn down the chance to move to Barcelona in favour of remaining with Diego Simeone’s side, and an announcement is due pretty soon.

Griezmann will be handed an improved contract at Atleti that will make him one of the highest-paid players in the world and believes he can continue to improve under Simeone.

The Frenchman also knows he’ll be under LIonel Messi’s shadow at Barcelona, while he can be the star at Atletico. The final of next season’s Champions League is being held at the Wanda Metropolitano which is also said to be another factor for Griezmann.

Griezmann was asked about his future again at the weekend, although it’s difficult to read too much into his comments.

“No, I’m not upset, I’m fine, with full confidence,” he said.

”And the most important thing is that I’m happy, that’s what matters.

”I trust this team, we must keep our feet on the ground and do everything possible to try to make it at the World Cup.”

If Griezmann does opt to stay at Atletico it will throw Barcelona’s transfer plans into disarray. Christian Eriksen has been talked about as a ‘Plan B’ and the club will have to assess their options.
