Sergi Roberto hit with four game ban for El Clasico red card
Sergi Roberto’s season has ended prematurely after the Barcelona right-back was hit with a four game ban for his red card against Real Madrid on Sunday.
The 26-year-old was given a straight red for a clash with Marcelo just before half-time and has been dealt with extremely harshly by the RFEF.
Marcelo said after the game “Sergi Roberto caught me in the face” and replays showed there was contact between the two players although it’s debatable how much.
The game was full of incident and controversial decisions and Sergi’s ban is like to inflame the debate, particularly as Gareth Bale got away with a horrible foul on Samuel Umtiti.
While it’s bad news for Barcelona and Sergi, it’s a good break for Nelson Semedo who can expect to play the remaining games against Villarreal, Levante and Real Sociedad.
