Player Ratings: Barcelona 2-2 Real Madrid

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Didn’t have much chance with either of the goals but otherwise was a safe, strong and confident pair of hands as always in the Barcelona goal.

Rating: 7

Sergi Roberto

Set up the opener with a great run and cross but was sent off just before half-time after a clash with Marcelo. It looked harsh in real time and TV replays were pretty inconclusive, but he did seem to hit out and Marcelo was always going to make a meal of it.

Rating: 5

Gerard Pique

Once again spent a proportion of the match hobbling but refused to let it bother him and frequently went to join the attack. More importantly though, what did he say to Nacho in the tunnel at half-time that so upset the Real Madrid man?

Rating: 7

Samuel Umtiti

Had a real battle with Gareth Bale and the Welshman somehow escaped sanction for an awful challenge on the French defender.

Rating: 7

Jordi Alba

Had a tough old evening which started with a tussle with Luka Modric that could have got him in trouble. Had some good moments going forwards but was a little fortunate not to concede a penalty in a clash with Marcelo.

Rating: 6

Philippe Coutinho

Had a decent first half but was sacrificed at the break after Sergi Roberto was sent off.

Rating: 6

Ivan Rakitić

Continued the form he’s shown all season with a fine display. Fought hard, scrapped but was also good in possession.

Rating: 7.5

Sergio Busquets

Was guilty of giving the ball away several times in the first half as Barca were a bit outnumbered in midfield but looked much better after the break.

Rating: 6.5

Andrés Iniesta

Played 57 minutes of his final ever Clasico before being replaced by Paulinho to a standing ovation. Would probably have lasted longer if Barcelona had not been a man down and a goal up.

Rating: 7

Lionel Messi

His run took away a couple of defenders for the opener and then scored a brilliant second goal. Had a couple of other chances to score again but it wasn’t to be. Worked so hard throughout the 90 minutes.

Rating: 8.5

Luis Suárez

Scored the opener with a fine finish and set up Lionel Messi for Barcelona’s second goal. Was up for the battle all night and there was no doubting his commitment.

Rating: 8

Nelson Semedo

Came on at half-time after Roberto was sent off and put in a strong display. Brilliant defensive header late on to preserve the draw.

Rating: 7.5

Paulinho

Replaced Iniesta and had a chance to score almost straightaway but could not quite get a touch on Semedo’s cross.

Rating: 7

Alcacer

Only came on in stoppage time after Suarez looked like he picked up a knock.

Rating: N/A

The Team

Had to play Real Madrid and the referee (how did Gareth Bale stay on the pitch?) which made things a lot harder. Still took a point despite playing the whole of the second half with 10 men and showed great spirit.

Rating: 8

Ernesto Valverde

He picked the team we all thought he would and then coped well after Roberto was sent off. Semedo played well after coming on at half-time and Paulinho was also the right choice.

Rating: 7

Man of the match

Messi
