Lenglet agrees Barcelona deal - report
Barcelona’s chase of Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet has taken another turn today with Mundo Deportivo reporting he’s agreed a five-year deal.
The defender was originally viewed as a potential replacement for Samuel Umtiti, but Barcelona now want to bring him in whether the Barca centre-back stay or goes.
Lenglet was initially concerned he would not see enough game time but has now decided he can compete with Umtiti and Gerard Pique for a starting spot.
The player’s representatives have met with Barcelona who like his price (apparently in the region of €35 million) and his youth and expect to complete a deal after the season ends.
News about Umtiti’s future has gone a bit quiet recently, although MD are also reporting that they are still working hard to keep the Frenchman at the club.
The club are willing to give him a pay increase but are not prepared to meet Umtiti’s demands. If they don’t agree a new deal they will be vulnerable to approaches as he has a release clause of just €60 million.
