Atlético Madrid Agreement With Cavani as Griezmann Replacement
The PSG striker joining Atléti would mean Griezmann joining Barcelona
Atlético Madrid have an agreement in principle with Edinson Cavani to replace the departing Antoine Griezmann in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo’s Francesc Aguilar.
Atléti reportedly want to keep Griezmann, but they think it’s highly likely that he will join Barcelona in the next transfer window. The Uruguayan, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is a prolific striker and Atléti reportedly don’t mind his relatively advanced age (31). They see a good partnership with Diego Costa forming, with Griezmann and also Fernando Torres likely out of the team.
Cavani would join fellow Uruguayans Diego Godín and José María Giménez, who would be happy to see their national team friend join.
According to the report, Diego Simeone initially asked to sign Juventus’s Paulo Dybala, but that’s been taken off the table due to his incredibly elevated price.
