Seydou Keita: Barça Favorites, But AS Roma Among the Best in Europe
The former Barcelona midfielder also had a spell in Rome
Seydou Keita has spoken out about the clash today between two of his former clubs, FC Barcelona and AS Roma.
“Before the competition started, no just in this tie, Barça is favorite to win the Champions League,” Keita said, “but you have to respect Roma, in the quarter finals you see the best eight teams in Europe.”
The Malian international, who last played for El Jaish in Qatar, recalled that “in the group stage, Roma finished ahead of Chelsea and Atlético Madrid,” saying that was proof that Roma are “a tough rival.”
“In contrast to other years, where they were better in the league and then not as good in Europe,” Keita continued, “this year it’s just the opposite, I see them stronger in the Champions League and less focused in Serie A.”
Speaking on the possible absence of Radja Nainggolan, Keita said he was “a very strong player, incredible physically, so if he doesn’t play, it’s a great loss for his team.”
The Malian also said that Barcelona always was the club he felt the most affection to, but that he was treated well by Roma, so he can only say he hopes the best team wins.
