Roma 3-0 Barcelona: Player Ratings
Marc-André ter Stegen
Looked a bit nervy early on but he made a lot of good saves and kept the score down to be honest, he even got a touch on De Rossi’s penalty but could not keep it out. Roma’s pressing was so intense Barca were forced to keep passing it back to Ter Stegen to kick it long and concede possession. That’s the kind of night it was.
Rating: 7
Nélson Semedo
In from the start again but like the whole defence he wasn’t great and didn’t get forwards at all.
Rating: 5
Samuel Umtiti
You get the real sense that his contract talks are affecting the centre-back who has been below par for the last few weeks. Struggled against Edin Dzeko all night and looked all over the place at times. Will not get the big pay rise he wants playing like this
Rating: 3
Gerard Piqué
Made some great tackles but conceded the penalty from which De Rossi made it 2-0. The best of a bad bunch, but still not very good.
Rating: 4
Jordi Alba
He could probably have done a bit better for the first goal and he just couldn’t get forward like he usually does to help out the attack.
Rating: 5
Sergi Roberto
Had an early chance at goal but produced a real tame effort and that summed up his game. Didn’t seem to fancy Roma’s physical approach and his passing was poor.
Rating: 5
Ivan Rakitic
The only Barcelona player who looked vaguely up for it but he was just overrun in midfield and could not turn the tide.
Rating: 5
Sergio Busquets
Is he even fit? Who knows? But like Rakitic he was simply no match for a Roma midfield that played with such drive and intensity.
Rating: 5
Andrés Iniesta
Looked all of his 33 years against Roma which at times was sad to see. Barcelona were crying out for his quality but he was pretty anonymous.
Rating: 4
Lionel Messi
Has been brilliant at free kicks this season but not tonight. Had another chance but hit it too close to Alisson and was booked for a cynical little foul on Kolarov which just showed his frustration.
Rating: 5
Luis Suárez
Didn’t get a sight of goal all night and never looked like scoring.
Rating: 4
The Team
First off let’s just say that Roma were excellent from the first minute to the last. However, letting slip a 4-1 lead for a team of Barca’s quality is pretty unacceptable. The team couldn’t cope with Roma’s intensity and it wasn’t until the last few minutes when they actually threatened. Just awful.
Rating: 3
Ernesto Valverde
Played pretty much his strongest team apart from Ousmane Dembele but you can perhaps understand his omission with the team 4-1 up. However, Barca couldn’t match Roma’s intensity and desire. Valverde had to chance his team earlier as Barca were getting absolutely batted but he did not make his first chance until the 81st minute which was way too late.

Man of the match
Nah. Not today.
