Messi’s new deal won’t be his last at Barca - Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says that Lionel Messi’s latest contract will not be his last at the club.

The Argentine finally put pen to paper on a new four-year deal in November which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022 and contains a €700 million release clause.

Messi will be 34 by the time his new deal expires but Bartomeu does not think that will signal the end of his Camp Nou career.

“We want to play good football, practice it in a unique way, and Leo Messi is our key player,” he said

”Andres Iniesta is an example. We want him here not just as a player, but as a legend. And I hope it’s the same with Messi. He has a four-year deal, but I don’t think it will be his last deal.”

Barcelona handed Andres Iniesta a ‘lifetime deal’ in October, designed to keep him at the club until he hangs up his boots and it sounds like they have similar plans for Messi.
