De Jong responds to Rakitic, Van Gaal comments ahead of Barca move

The midfielder has been talking about his new club

Frenkie de Jong has been talking about his forthcoming move to Barcelona and responded to speculation over where he might play for the Spanish champions.

Ivan Rakitic said recently that De Jong would not take his position, while former Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal reckons the young Dutchman may find life tough at the Camp Nou.

However, De Jong is not really having any of it and explained what the club told him when he agreed to make the move.

“They told me I would sign to take one of the three midfield positions, let’s see what happens. It won’t be me who says in what role I want to play.

”I haven’t had any contact with him [Valverde] yet. You ask me if he’s under pressure but that’s due to the media too. However, I don’t know how things are at the club.”

De Jong was also asked directly about Van Gaal’s comments and answered: “Everyone can think what they want, I don’t think it’s a controversial statement from him.”
