Barcelona were on a hiding to nothing against Getafe

The supporters have been unforgiving

Come on guys, what were you expecting?!

The performance against Getafe could’ve been predicted within five minutes of the final whistle at Anfield.

But let’s take the positives firstly.

The win against a Champions League chasing side shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand. Plenty of teams have tried, and failed, to beat the team from southern Madrid this season.

As it is, their defeat at the Camp Nou makes their debut entry into European football’s premier competition unlikely.

Very much a ‘job done’ from Valverde and Co.

Abel Ruiz’s cameo was also welcomed, the youngster handed the last 21 minutes of the game, taking Philippe Coutinho’s place.

In so doing, he became the 11th La Masia graduate to debut under Valverde, which, though it may surprise many, equals the amount of youngsters Pep Guardiola brought through in the first two years of his tenure.

Aside from that, there wasn’t too much to write home about on the pitch. Most of the players looked like they were already on their holidays, and looking at the empty stands it appears most of the supporters were too.

Those that were there made their feelings known, consistently booing a number of the players with Coutinho, again, being the focus of their vitriol.

He succumbed to injury later in the match and at this point his participation in the Copa del Rey final isn’t assured.

Ah yes, the cup final.

There’s still a title to be won. Something that can again lift the spirits.

But there’ll need to be a sea change in attitude on and off the pitch if the Blaugranes want to come away from the Benito Villamarin with trophy in hand.

Against an in-form Valencia side celebrating their centenary year, that’s far from a foregone conclusion at this stage.

The funk that Barca find themselves in post-Liverpool has to well and truly be put to one side until the season has finished.

There absolutely should be a forensic analysis of that performance in the summer, and the board and supporters should make their voices heard loud and clear at that point.

All our star players openly supporting Valverde, not because he’s what’s best for the club, but because he’s what’s best for them. Our problems run deep, we need a purge in our squad to get rid of these over paid clowns and their low standards. This is not worthy FC Barcelona.

Doing so now only adds to the negativity that’s feeding into the club.

Even Ivan Rakitic has been forced to apologise for spending time with his family the day after losing to Liverpool.

Are we really that blinded by our ‘support’ that we believe haranguing one of our best players of the last few seasons for enjoying some down time is in our best interests?

So... Ivan Rakitic is “the worst midfielder in Barcelona history” and Valverde “is worst manager in Barcelona history”

Part of me is envious of people who didn’t know Barça existed pre 2008.

Sure, the result sucked, but not half as much as the behaviour of those who profess to be behind the players through thick and thin.

Don’t expect a hatful of goals against Eibar next weekend either, a match in which I expect that Valverde will rotate heavily.

And if all you’re interested in doing is continuing to kick the team when they’re as down as they’ve ever been over the last 12 months, then don’t have the temerity to call yourself a fan either.
