Two late goals secured an important three points

Barcelona are on the brink of another title

Barcelona’s win propelled them 11 points clear of Atletico Madrid with just seven games left to play, meaning Ernesto Valverde’s men are on the brink of yet another title.

A win for Atletico would have reduced the gap to five points, but late goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi were enough for victory in a hard-fought game.

Barcelona now look destined to continue their domestic dominance and land their eighth title in 11 seasons, while the treble remains very much on.

The champions have three games left at home, against Sociedad, Getafe and Levante and play Huesca, Alavés, Celta and Eibar away.

Messi and Suarez are a cut above the rest in La Liga

Barcelona looked to be heading for a goalless draw against Atletico Madrid until Messi and Suarez once again popped up with the goods to secure the win.

Not only did both players score, they also fired pretty special goals past Jan Oblak who had been in great form at the Camp Nou.

Suarez curled home the opener from outside the box to finally break the deadlock on 85 minutes.

Messi then conjured the second with another brilliant bit of skill and a finish that deceived Oblak and his defenders.

The duo have now combined to score more La Liga goals than every other team in the division, apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Messi has 33 for the season in La Liga, while Suarez has 20 and with seven games still to play you can bet they will both add to their tallies before the season is out.

Griezmann not welcome at the Camp Nou

Antoine Griezmann made his first appearance at the Camp Nou since his infamous documentary where he announced his decision not to move to Barcelona.

The Frenchman has been linked again with a move to the Camp Nou this season, but supporters made their feelings about Griezmann pretty plain during the match:

Griezmann has never scored at the Camp Nou, and Barcelona ensured that record continued on Saturday.

The World Cup winner has now made 13 appearances (for Real Sociedad and Atletico) at Barcelona’s ground but is still yet to find the back of the net.

Barcelona’s win will worry Man Utd

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and assistant Mike Phelan were both at the Camp Nou to take in Saturday’s match and run the rule over Barcelona.

The Red Devils were not in action this weekend and should be the fresher team for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford.

Yet that might be the only advantage Manchester United enjoy for the first leg, as Barcelona showed again how utterly ruthless they can be with yet another victory.

Ernesto Valverde’s side may not be perfect, but they are on a simply relentless run and have not lost in La Liga since November.

They have also come up with late goals twice in a week, against Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, to secure important results.

Atletico Madrid may have given United hope with their defensive play, but Diego Simeone’s backline is far more robust than the Red Devils’ defence.
